The Board Squad takes on a nutrition challenge

We were inspired by Dr. Mary Claire Haver's appearance on the Oprah show. She is a board certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist with expertise in menopause wellness. She has a website full of information on things you can do to live your best menopause life. Her recommendations are evidence based and they make so much sense. We took on the Belly Blast Fat Challenge and are committing to the following rules.


  1. Consume 25 grams of fiber per day. We incorporate fiber filled fruits, vegetables and whole grans into our daily meals and snacks.

  2. Reduce added sugar. We are increasing our awareness of added sugars by reading nutrition labels and reducing our reliance on sugars. *This doesn't include the natural sugars found in fruit, vegetables and dairy.

  3. Exercise regularly. We are completing 30-45 minutes of cardio in our fat burning heart rate Zone 2 over the course of the week to total at least 150 minutes per week. She has a guide that can be downloaded on her website (www.thepauselife.com)

  4. Reduce stress. Actively lowering cortisol through journaling, prayer, breathing, Tai Chi and restorative practices.

  5. Avoid alcohol!! This will be the hardest part of the challenge for the boardies.
